Step 1: Your secure business electronics pickup begins before we ever arrive.
The secure process actually starts before your old computers and equipment ever leave your office.
When your pickup is scheduled, TechBack creates a unique job number for your project. From that point forward, every document associated with your pickup, from scheduling and chain of custody through your final Certificate of Data Destruction and Certificate of Recycling, is tied back to that single job.
It may seem like a small detail, but creating a documented project from the very beginning helps ensure every step that follows stays organized, traceable, and accountable.
Step 2: Your old computers and IT equipment are documented and securely transferred.
Every business electronics pickup begins with a documented transfer of custody.
Before equipment ever leaves your building, responsibility for your computers, laptops, servers and other devices is formally transferred to TechBack. Depending on your project, equipment may also be inventoried, labeled, or recorded as part of the pickup process.
This creates the first documented link in your equipment's journey through our secure IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) process.

Step 3: Your equipment travels directly to our secure ITAD facility.
Once loaded, your equipment is transported directly to TechBack's enclosed IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) processing facility in East Syracuse.
As Central New York's first and only NYS DEC-Registered Electronics Recycler, we're able to process your business computers and electronics locally instead of sending them across the state or the country before secure processing even begins.
That means shorter transportation, fewer handoffs, and complete control over your equipment from pickup through final processing.

Step 4: Every computer, hard drive and data-bearing device is evaluated.
Not every device requires exactly the same treatment.
Our team identifies computers, servers, laptops, hard drives, solid-state drives, and other storage media that may contain sensitive information.
Each device is evaluated to determine the most appropriate method of secure data destruction based on its condition and your organization's requirements.
Some media can be securely wiped or sanitized using industry-approved methods, while others require complete physical destruction.

Step 5: Your data is permanently destroyed.
This is the step most businesses care about most.
Depending on the device, hard drives and other storage media are either securely wiped or sanitized using methods consistent with NIST SP 800-88 or physically destroyed inside our industrial dual-chamber hard drive shredder.
If a drive can't successfully complete secure sanitization, or if physical hard drive destruction is required by your organization's policies or regulations, it is destroyed entirely within our monitored facility.
Either way, the outcome is exactly the same:
Your sensitive information is permanently rendered unrecoverable.
Step 6: Your data destruction and recycling documentation is completed.
Secure data destruction doesn't end when the work is finished.
It ends when your organization has documentation showing exactly what happened.
Every business client receives a Certificate of Data Destruction confirming secure processing. You'll also receive a Certificate of Recycling documenting the responsible recycling of your retired computers and electronics. Organizations with more advanced compliance requirements can also request Premium Audit-Grade Reporting with additional device-level information.

Step 7: Your old computers and electronics enter responsible recycling.
Once sensitive information has been securely destroyed, the remaining computers and equipment enter the electronics recycling process.
Whenever possible, components that can be responsibly reused are recovered. Materials that cannot be reused are processed through our carefully vetted downstream R2V3 partners as part of TechBack's Zero Landfill Promise.
